I’ve had times in my life where I have needed the support of others to hold me up. I’ve needed their prayers of hope and faith because I haven’t had enough of my own. We all have times in our lives when it’s just too much and we get too tired. Sometimes we need others to believe for us when we just can’t do it anymore.
As I was reading through Exodus last week (Exodus 17) that’s what stood out to me in this passage. Moses couldn’t win the battle on his own. He needed Aaron and Hur to prop him up, hold up his hands when he grew too tired to do it himself. As long as they did that for him they were winning, when they weren’t there was defeat. This is an incredible picture of support and friendship. God never meant for us to do it alone. Sometimes we need others to enter our journey and hold us up so that God gets even more glory and reveals himself in a way He couldn’t if we were doing it alone. Here’s the Scripture I’m talking about:
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
God has brought a friend into my life since moving here who I’ve been able to come along side and hold her up in prayer when she hasn’t been able to do it. It’s been an honor that she’s let me into her journey and it’s been so fun to begin to see God answer some prayers and do some miracles.
Do you have those people in your life? If not, why not? Do you let others into your journey or try to do it alone?
